Buying a house in Alcalalí: the village, Llosa de Camacho or the urbanisations
Alcalalí is a small village in the Vall de Pop, a little higher than the valley floor
Buying a house in Alcalalí means buying in a small village in the Vall de Pop, a few kilometres west of Jalón. The village sits on a rise above the flat valley floor, with supermarket, pharmacy, primary school and surgery close together. In the centre stand the old lookout tower and the palace the village lords had built beside it. The municipality also includes Llosa de Camacho, a second village with its own tier of local government for part of the territory. Around it, almonds, grapes, olives and oranges have traditionally been grown.
The village, Llosa de Camacho or the urbanisations: where to look in Alcalalí
In the village you live compactly, with everyday amenities a few hundred metres away. Outside the village lie urbanisations with villas and building plots, such as La Solana Gardens, within walking distance of the centre, and Benarrosa Gardens. Llosa de Camacho is more rural and has its own tier of local government; with a home there, ask which office handles licences and local charges. To the east lies Jalón, the largest village in the valley, and to the west Parcent, where the road over the Coll de Rates begins.
Village house, villa on a plot or finca: what you buy in Alcalalí
In the village you mainly buy older village houses. In the urbanisations it is villas on generous plots, some still under construction, and building plots for those who want to build themselves. In the countryside there are fincas with almond trees or vines. With a finca or an older villa outside the built-up area, have an adviser check what has been built and licensed on the rural land, and how water and drainage are arranged. What is being built now is on the new-build page for Alcalalí.
Alcalalí suits those who want small and close by, less so frequent flyers or those who want a sea view
Alcalalí suits people who want to live in a small, quiet village and still have the basics on foot, and those who want to build or have built a villa on a plot with a view over the valley. It suits frequent flyers and those who want to see the sea less well: Alicante is over an hour away, and you do not see the coast from here. Mind fire too: in the mountains on the edge of the valley a large area of forest burned, and in neighbouring Parcent scattered homes were evacuated. With a house on the edge of the woods, ask about fire prevention and the access road.
The CV-720, Dénia and the school bus: practical matters from Alcalalí
The CV-720 follows the valley through the village, with Parcent and Benigembla on one side and Pedreguer on the other. Via Jalón and Benissa you reach the AP-7 and the coastal tram. Alicante airport is over an hour away by car. For hospital care Alcalalí falls under Dénia. There is a primary school in the village, and the secondary school in Benissa has a school bus stop in Alcalalí; British schools are on the coast, including near Cumbre del Sol.
