Property for sale in Fuente Álamo

Buying a house in Fuente Álamo means buying in the interior of Murcia, on flat to gently rolling land in the Campo de Cartagena. The village, in full Fuente Álamo de Murcia, is a Spanish farming centre with supermarket, pharmacy, school and health centre close by. To the north the Carrascoy ridge begins, and small villages such as Las Palas, Balsapintada and El Estrecho are scattered across the municipality. What brings foreign buyers here is mainly one golf resort and the short drive to Corvera airport.

Hacienda del Álamo lies a few kilometres outside the village, around a golf course, with a hotel, bars and restaurants, a shop and round-the-clock security. That is where the international community lives. In the village you live among Spaniards, with everyday amenities on foot. In the smaller villages you live more rurally, and in Las Palas there is new building too. Mind the names: Altaona, Corvera Golf and Hacienda Riquelme are in the municipality of Murcia, and La Torre in Torre-Pacheco, even though they are often mentioned in the same breath as Fuente Álamo.

On Hacienda del Álamo you buy flats and homes from the first phases, from early this century, alongside new villas with a private pool now sold off-plan, some right on the course. Elsewhere in the municipality there are new-build terraced houses and villas, and in the village and the countryside village houses, flats and country houses with land. When buying off-plan, make sure your deposits are secured by a bank. With a country house, have an adviser check the zoning, the licences and the water rights.

Fuente Álamo suits people who fly back and forth often: Corvera airport is about a quarter of an hour away. It also suits golfers who want to live on a resort with amenities inside the gate, and those looking for more space and quiet than on the coast. It suits those who want the sea round the corner less well: the Mar Menor is about half an hour away, and in summer it is warmer here than by the sea. There will be building on the resort for some time, so with an existing home ask where the new phases are going.

The Región de Murcia airport is about a quarter of an hour by car from the village. The RM-2 runs through the municipality, from the A-7 near Alhama de Murcia to the A-30 towards Cartagena. For hospital care Fuente Álamo falls under Cartagena, not Murcia; the village has a health centre. For a British school you drive to a golf resort near Roldán or to the south of Murcia.
