What to know about living in Torremolinos
Where it is and how you get there
Torremolinos lies on the Costa del Sol, immediately south-west of Málaga and right beside the airport. That is a drive of about a quarter of an hour, and the city of Málaga is around twenty minutes away on the suburban train. The coastline here is broad and sandy and runs without interruption into Benalmádena. Behind the town lies the ridge that accompanies the whole coast.
What kind of place it is, and who it suits
Torremolinos was one of the first places on this coast to turn to tourism, and the high-rise along the promenade still shows it. Much has been renewed in recent years: the promenade has been reworked and new build has appeared between the older blocks. The town is lively, international and open year-round, with a pronounced nightlife and a well-known LGBT scene around La Nogalera. Anyone looking for quiet is less well served here; anyone looking for amenities and connections, excellently.
What you will find there
Everything is present and close at hand: supermarkets, shopping centres, a health centre and stations on the Málaga-Fuengirola line. For a large hospital and universities you rely on Málaga, a short half hour away. The beaches run the full length of the town, with a continuous promenade and beach restaurants. The short distance to the airport is the argument for many buyers, and for some the drawback at the same time: approach paths are audible in parts of the town.
