What to know about living in Pilar de la Horadada
Where it is and how you get there
Pilar de la Horadada is the southernmost municipality in the province of Alicante, right against the Murcia border. The main village lies inland; at the sea are Torre de la Horadada and Mil Palmeras, with sandy beaches and a marina. Corvera airport is about half an hour away, Alicante an hour. The N-332 runs through the municipality and links it to Torrevieja in the north and San Pedro del Pinatar in the south.
What kind of place it is, and who it suits
This is one of the quieter stretches of the southern Costa Blanca: low building, wide beaches and a crowd that is largely Spanish. The coastal villages fill up in summer and are still in winter, while Pilar itself simply functions all year. The Murcia border runs straight through this area, which means that for some services you drive out of the province.
What you will find there
The main village has supermarkets, a market, a health centre and schools. At the coast there is a marina, beach bars and a promenade. Golf courses lie nearby towards Torre-Pacheco and Orihuela Costa. For the public hospital you drive to Torrevieja. The ramblas and the coastal path between Torre de la Horadada and Mil Palmeras are good for walking and cycling, out of season too.
