What to know about living in La Nucía
Where it is and how you get there
La Nucía lies a few kilometres inland above Benidorm and Altea, on the hills of the Marina Baixa. From much of the municipality you look out over the coast; the sea itself is a quarter of an hour away. Alicante airport is around forty-five minutes on the AP-7. Altea, Benidorm and Polop border it directly, which makes the choice between coast and inland a matter of minutes here.
What kind of place it is, and who it suits
In fifty years La Nucía has grown from a mountain village into a residential municipality with a strongly northern European population. The council has invested heavily in sport: the Ciutat Esportiva Camilo Cano holds dozens of sports facilities on one site and is being developed into a high-performance training centre. That shapes the character more than tourism does. It suits people who want to live here all year, close to the coast but not in it, with their own centre and less seasonal bustle.
What you will find there
The sports complex has an indoor hall, football pitches, padel courts, a tennis academy, a BMX track and a skatepark among other things. There is a health centre, a library, an auditorium and a weekly market. There are two international schools in the municipality itself. For the area’s public hospital you rely on Villajoyosa. Shopping centres and the beaches are in Benidorm, a quarter of an hour away.
