What to know about living in Algorfa
Where it is and how you get there
Algorfa is a small village in the Vega Baja, the farming country behind Torrevieja and Guardamar. It lies inland among citrus groves and low hills, about twenty minutes from the coast at Guardamar and just under an hour from Alicante airport. You cannot see the sea from here. The N-332 and the AP-7 are both within a quarter of an hour, and Torrevieja is the nearest large town.
What kind of place it is, and who it suits
The village itself is Spanish and small, with a square and a handful of bars. Almost all the new build in this municipality sits on the La Finca golf resort, a few kilometres outside the village. That resort has a character of its own: generous plots, plenty of greenery and an international set of residents. People who buy here choose quiet and golf, and accept that the sea and the larger shops mean getting in the car.
What you will find there
La Finca has an eighteen-hole course from 2002, designed by José Gancedo, with a clubhouse beside it. The village has a supermarket, a health centre and a school. For the public hospital you rely on Orihuela, for large shops on Torrevieja, Almoradí or Orihuela and for a British school on San Miguel de Salinas. The beaches of Guardamar and Torrevieja are half an hour away. The area suits cycling well: flat roads through the fields and hills close by.
