Buying a house in Monforte del Cid means buying in the interior of the province of Alicante, in the middle Vinalopó valley. The village is flat, with supermarket, pharmacy, school and health centre a few hundred metres away, in an area known for the table grape that ripens on the vine inside a paper bag. The municipality also includes Orito, a hamlet around a place of pilgrimage. Outside the village lie two golf resorts, each with its own course and its own access road, and that is where almost all the new building is. So buying here usually means buying on a resort rather than in the village.

Alenda Golf lies around a course from the late nineties, laid out keeping the original relief and vegetation; linked and semi-detached homes are being built next to the course. Font del Llop lies on the road from Alicante to Aspe, around a second course with a clubhouse, with villas, flats and townhouses. In adverts the two get mixed up, so always ask which resort is meant. In the village and in Orito you live among Spanish neighbours and vineyards of table grapes. The city of Alicante is twenty minutes to half an hour away.

What is for sale here is mostly new build: villas, townhouses and flats on the two resorts, often still off-plan. In the village itself it is existing village houses and flats. When buying off-plan, make sure your deposits are secured by a bank, and check the completion date and the building licence. Monforte del Cid suits people looking for golf and space a short distance from the airport and the city of Alicante, and those who would rather live in a new build than do up an older home. It suits those who want to live by the sea less well: the coast is a good way off, and in summer the interior is a few degrees warmer. There is still building on the resorts, so expect construction traffic nearby. And the municipality is a junction: the high-speed line to Murcia branches off here and the A-31 runs past, so with an address also look at rail and road.

Alicante airport is twenty minutes to half an hour away by car. The A-31 between Alicante and Madrid runs past the municipality, and Font del Llop is on the road to Aspe. For public healthcare Monforte belongs to Alicante, with the general hospital there and the hospital in Sant Vicent del Raspeig; the village has a health centre.
