Marc Stam

I was born and raised in Amersfoort and lived for ten years on the Costa Blanca, mainly in Javea. These days I split my time between the Netherlands and Spain, roughly half and half. I speak with many clients before they even travel over, so we can prepare their search properly.

How I ended up in this role

I grew up in Amersfoort and studied at the International School of Economics in Rotterdam, a Europe-focused programme with a study year in Germany. After that I worked for a number of years in securities trading.

At a certain point we began our own emigration adventure to Spain, starting with a tapas bar in the Jalon Valley. I soon saw how things worked in the Spanish real estate trade: people were being cheated or poorly informed. That gave rise to the idea of working as a buyer's agent and guiding foreign buyers safely and properly through the purchase process.

In 2005 I founded Costa Select together with my wife, who stepped away after a few years. In the years that followed I built a strong, stable network of local businesses and people who help us with everything our clients need.

The best part of this work is that you make people's dreams come true. For many, a home in Spain is a long-cherished wish. Outside of work I am married, have a now-grown son and a golden retriever I love to walk with. I also play padel and, now and then, a round of golf.

My region

Javea and the Costa Blanca

I have been in Spain fully or partly since 2002 and have done business in the local property market since 2005. Those years have given me a deep network and a thorough knowledge of the area.

Off-market listings come from all sorts of corners: from gardeners and pool technicians to lawyers, gestorías, neighbours, former clients and the informal channels of estate agents. That way I often hear early on what is going on.

What makes this region special is the mild climate with gentle winters, lovely weather in spring and autumn and summers that are not extremely hot. On top of that come the clean air, the green hills and the friendly people.

Working method

How we work

The standard Costa Select approach, the same for every client and every consultant. From the first introduction to well beyond the handover of the keys, we follow these five fixed phases.

    Introduction & strategy

    Your goals, regions, budget and intended use. Together we build a search profile that fits. (2 to 4 weeks)

  2. 02 / 05

    Searching & shortlisting

    Property portals, off-market listings and our own network. You receive a short, carefully made shortlist. (4 to 8 weeks)

  3. 03 / 05

    Negotiating

    We negotiate on your behalf: without emotion but sharply, based on comparable sales. (1 to 3 weeks)

  4. 04 / 05

    Due diligence & legal

    Lawyer, valuation, technical inspection and tax calculation. We coordinate everything. (3 to 6 weeks)

  5. 05 / 05

    Completion & aftercare

    Transfer, keys, registration, insurance and aftercare in the first year. (1 to 2 weeks plus aftercare)
