Living in Alfaz del Pi
Where it is and how you get there
Alfaz del Pi lies between Altea and Benidorm, with the village inland and Albir at the sea. Albir is the coastal part of the municipality, with a pebble beach, a promenade and the walking path to the lighthouse through the Serra Gelada natural park. Benidorm is ten minutes away, Altea five, and Alicante airport forty-five minutes on the AP-7. The village itself sits a few kilometres from the coast, on the first slopes behind Albir.
What kind of place it is, and who it suits
Alfaz del Pi has the second largest Norwegian colony in the world: around two and a half thousand residents are of Norwegian origin. There is a Norwegian school, the oldest and largest Norway has built outside its own borders, a Norwegian church in Albir and even a Norwegian volunteer centre. You see that in the streets and in the shops. Albir is quieter and lower built than Benidorm; the village inland is more Spanish, with its own market and square.
What you will find there
Albir has supermarkets, restaurants along the promenade and medical practices working in several languages. There is a health centre and an international school in the municipality, and two Norwegian care homes for older residents. For the area’s public hospital you rely on Villajoyosa. The lighthouse path is the best-known walk in the area: paved, level and with views over the bay of Altea.
