Property for sale in El Campello

Buying a house in El Campello means buying in a municipality of its own just north of Alicante, with the city a tram ride away and yet a centre of its own. That centre is flat and set back a little from the beach, with supermarket, pharmacy and health centre close by. On the sea lie the harbour, where a few fishing boats still go out, and on a small peninsula the watchtower and the excavations of the Illeta dels Banyets. The coast changes sharply within the municipality: a long sandy beach in the south, cliffs and small coves in the north.

In the south lies Muchavista, a wide sandy beach with flats behind it and tram stops along the whole stretch. It runs on into the Playa de San Juan, which belongs to Alicante; so with a home "on the Playa de San Juan", check which municipality it is in. Around the centre and the harbour you live on flat ground, with everything on foot. Further north the coast turns rocky, with villa areas such as Coveta Fumà and Pueblo Español and coves near Venta Lanuza. There you live with more space, but further from the shops.

Along Muchavista and in the centre you mainly buy flats, from older blocks to new builds, often with a sea view on the front line. On the northern coast it is detached villas and linked houses in urbanisations on the rocky shore. With a home on the cliff, have it checked what may be built or altered on and around the plot. El Campello suits people who want to live by the sea with the amenities of a big city close by, and those who want to manage without a car: two tram lines stop in the municipality, with stops along almost the whole coast. It also suits families with an eye on a British school on the edge of Alicante. It suits frequent flyers who want the airport round the corner less well: it lies on the other side of Alicante. And in the villa areas on the northern coast a car is still handy for the daily shopping.

By tram you reach the centre of Alicante in about twenty minutes. One line ends in El Campello, the other runs along the northern coast on to Villajoyosa and Benidorm. Alicante airport is about half an hour away by car. For the public hospital El Campello belongs to Sant Joan d’Alacant, not to the hospital in the city of Alicante; El Campello itself has a health centre.
